As many struggle with this, shops are working at way to improve. Because of highly accurate tooling and fixturing, Automation is becoming an attractive option for all shops.

At Schweda, we have been automating Sinker EDMs, Graphite Machining Centers and Wire EDMs. Most shops are unaware of the total machining hours their machines are running, but the common statement is that they are not running enough. With shorter lead times and the profits of jobs being squeeze, shops must figure out how to run their machines through the night while unattended (Lights Out!).
